While the majority of cars I’ve had have been standard, I’ve never felt particularly good at driving them. I do well enough that I still enjoy them, but I’ve always liked having the safety net of an automatic car as well, at least partly because of my lack of confidence when it comes to driving stick. Because I’ve been driving standard on and off for about 4 years now, I assumed there was just something wrong with me and I wasn’t ever going to be that good at it. Today, however, driving the Raider, something just clicked. I can’t explain it, but suddenly it all felt more natural. Whatever it was, I’m smoother now, going easier on the clutch when starting, and overall feeling more confident, just from a half hour drive that I’ve done countless times in other standard vehicles. Whatever clicked, I’m glad it did.

I may drive a mundane, crappy Accent, but I remember a few years ago, not long after I got it, somebody telling me I was very smooth with my stick driving...was a nice feeling :)
Kudos to ya! I’m glad I learned blips on downshifts too, but can’t learn to heel toe ok in my car as the pedals are set up terribly for it...

Make the iacv non functional and you’ll be forced to learn heel toeing of sorts. At least that’s how I got enough practice to actually try it under normal driving without being forced to.

My issue is that the gas pedal is set a long distance back from the clutch and brake at an angle my ankle doesn’t function at :/

I struggle with the ankle part too, for the longest time i thought i would never learn due to that. I’m at the limits of my body when I’m doing it.

Congrats on the breakthrough. Another thing that helps make you more comfortable is ditching the safety net of also having a car with an automatic. When the only car you have is a stick, it’s amazing how quickly it starts to feel more natural.

I’d consider that if I could sell the Legacy, but since it was an inheritance from my grandpa, I’d feel pretty guilty about letting it go
